JAMB Sacks Staff for Extorting Candidates

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board has terminated the appointment of one of its staff members for extorting unsuspecting candidates, warning employees against misconduct capable of undermining the integrity of its operations.

JAMB disclosed this in its weekly bulletin issued on Monday, September 21, 2026, as the examination body reiterated its commitment to sanitising Nigeria’s admission and examination processes.

The Board did not disclose the identity of the affected staff member or provide details of the amount allegedly obtained from candidates. However, it said the disciplinary action demonstrated that its campaign against fraud was not restricted to individuals operating outside the organisation.

According to JAMB, the same determination it has applied in dealing with external fraudsters would also be used against employees who engage in internal misconduct.

The Board warned its workforce against exploiting candidates or members of the public, stressing that anyone found engaging in conduct capable of compromising its operations would face sanctions under established rules.

JAMB said its zero-tolerance policy on corruption and misconduct applies to all employees, regardless of their status or position within the organisation.

The examination body further stated that it would not protect staff members who abuse their positions or violate the trust placed in them by candidates and members of the public.

The latest disciplinary action comes amid the Board’s broader efforts to strengthen the credibility of the admission and examination system. JAMB has repeatedly warned candidates against falling victim to individuals who promise assistance with examination results, admissions or other services in exchange for money.

The Board said the fight against fraudulent practices must begin from within, noting that maintaining a clean and accountable workforce was essential to preserving public confidence in its operations.

It also urged staff members to desist from all forms of “unwholesome conduct,” particularly activities capable of undermining the integrity of the Board or exploiting candidates.

The Board said such actions would attract severe consequences in accordance with its established disciplinary procedures.

JAMB’s latest bulletin also reflects its continuing focus on examination integrity. The Board recently conducted its 2026 UTME mop-up exercise and has continued to report measures aimed at addressing examination malpractice and other irregularities within the admission process.

The termination of the staff member therefore serves as an internal disciplinary measure as JAMB seeks to ensure that candidates dealing with its officials are protected from exploitation.

The Board maintained that its responsibility to safeguard the admission and examination system extends beyond detecting external fraudsters to holding its own employees accountable when they breach established standards.

JAMB urged its staff to uphold professionalism and integrity, warning that anyone who abuses their position or exploits candidates will be sanctioned irrespective of rank.

The Board reaffirmed that the fight against fraud and misconduct would remain a priority as it works to maintain a transparent, accountable and credible examination and admission process across the country.
