Super Eagles striker Kelechi Iheanacho has been named the best player of the opening eight rounds of the Turkish TFF 1. Lig following an impressive start to life with Bursaspor.
Iheanacho was selected for the individual honour by beIN SPORTS during its beIN 1. Lig programme, where the first eight rounds of the Turkish second-tier competition were assessed.
The 29-year-old forward has scored 11 goals and provided two assists in eight league appearances, establishing himself as one of the standout performers in the competition. His goalscoring run has also helped Bursaspor maintain a strong position near the top of the table.
Iheanacho’s latest major contribution came on September 19, when he scored twice in Bursaspor’s 2-1 comeback victory over Batman Petrolspor. The brace extended his scoring streak to eight consecutive league matches and matched a Bursaspor record previously set by Brazilian striker Fernandao during the 2014/15 season.
Bursaspor were also recognised by beIN SPORTS as the best team of the first eight rounds after recording six victories, one draw and one defeat. The club had accumulated 19 points and sat second on goal difference at the time of the assessment.
The recognition is significant for Iheanacho, whose move to Turkey has coincided with a notable resurgence in his club form. He joined Bursaspor as a free agent in July after leaving Scottish champions Celtic, signing a contract that runs until June 2029.
His performances have also brought renewed attention from the Nigeria national team. Iheanacho has been recalled to the Super Eagles squad for an October 6 friendly against Russia, giving him another opportunity to contribute to the national team setup.
Iheanacho previously played for Manchester City, Leicester City and Sevilla before joining Celtic. His current scoring form in Turkey marks another chapter in the career of the Nigeria international, who continues to compete for a place among the Super Eagles’ attacking options.
