Coalition for the Protection of Democracy (COPDEM), a pro-democracy group has called for financial support which will facilitate the training of over 200,000 polling units volunteer agents nationwide ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The appeal was made by the national chairman of COPDEM, Mr. Mr Pam Rwang during a fundraising zoom meeting on Sunday.
According to Pam, the 200,000 volunteer polling units agents will ensure vote protection, realtime transmission of results, election observation and grassroots mobilisation.
Mr Rwang noted that motivating the volunteers was necessary, as this will encourage their active participation and commitment to the initiative.
He added that their involvement will help in protecting democracy and ensure credible elections in Nigeria.
The initiative is aimed at strengthening citizens’ participation in the democratic process and ensuring that electoral activities receive adequate attention at the grassroots.
However, participants at the meeting demonstrated their commitment to the initiative through financial donations to support the planned activities.
The organisers emphasised the importance of collective responsibility in mobilising resources to achieve the target of training 200,000 volunteers nationwide.
