Peter Obi Condemns Enugu NDC Attack, Warns: ‘Anarchy Will Consume Everybody’

Presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi, has condemned a reported attack on party supporters in Enugu State, warning that unchecked political violence could threaten the safety of citizens and undermine democracy.

Obi reacted after suspected political thugs reportedly attacked NDC members at Akanu Ibiam International Airport in Enugu on Saturday, October 10, 2026. The supporters had gathered to welcome the party’s governorship candidate, Chinyeaka Ohaa, when the incident occurred. Reports indicated that one person died in the attack.

In a video shared on social media, Obi described the incident as unfortunate and cautioned those in positions of authority against allowing lawlessness to spread.

“The unfortunate incident that happened today in Enugu State, where NDC supporters were attacked by political thugs, has reportedly claimed one life,” he said. “Those in government should know that when anarchy comes, it consumes everybody.”

The former Anambra State governor also disclosed that some of his planned engagements in other states had been cancelled after the people who invited him reportedly received threats. He expressed concern that intimidation could prevent political actors from meeting supporters and participating freely in public activities.

Obi’s media office also called on security agencies to investigate reported political violence in Enugu and prosecute anyone found responsible, regardless of political affiliation or status.

The incident has raised fresh concerns about political security as parties prepare for the 2027 general elections. However, the identities of those responsible for the airport attack and the full circumstances surrounding the reported death require confirmation from the relevant authorities.

The latest development follows earlier reports of attacks on political meetings in Enugu, including incidents in which the NDC alleged that its members were targeted. Police previously said investigations had been ordered into reported disruptions of party meetings in the state.

Political violence remains a concern for Nigeria’s electoral process, with calls for peaceful campaigning, impartial investigations and accountability continuing ahead of the next elections.
