The Polling Booth Council (PBC) is set to formally go live with the unveiling of its State Directorate’s four-man committee at a virtual ceremony scheduled for Wednesday, 14 October 2026, at 8:00 p.m. Nigerian time, via Zoom. The Virtual Ceremony is Expected to Attract Thousands of New Nigeria Advocates Worldwide
The event is expected to attract thousands of New Nigeria advocates from across the globe, bringing together citizens committed to grassroots mobilisation, election monitoring, voter education and the promotion of transparent and credible electoral processes ahead of Nigeria’s 2027 general elections.
The unveiling represents a major organisational step for the council as it moves to strengthen its state-level leadership structures and establish a coordinated framework for nationwide operations.
A Strategic Partnership for Electoral Transparency
The Polling Booth Council is an offspring of the Prof. Pat Utomi-led Big Tent Coalition and the Coalition for the Protection of Democracy (COPDEM), whose collaboration seeks to establish an independent parallel citizen-based structure to support transparency and accountability in the conduct of the 2027 general elections.
Through this synergy, both organisations aim to strengthen active citizen participation in the electoral process by building a nationwide network of community mobilisers, polling booth representatives and trained election monitors.
The synergy between the PBC and the COPDEM 2027 Situationroom is expected to change the face of elections in Nigeria by enabling massive real-time election monitoring and the prompt upload of INEC Form EC8A results from polling units.
At the heart of the initiative is the proposed recruitment and deployment of 9,500 community mobilisers nationwide. These mobilisers are expected to undergo training in election monitoring and voter education to equip them with the knowledge and practical skills required to engage citizens, promote electoral awareness and support the systematic observation and documentation of election-day activities.
The PBC is set to commence training for polling-unit monitors this week, alongside the enrolment of participants on its elections monitoring app. The digital platform is expected to support the registration, coordination and deployment of monitors, as well as the systematic reporting of polling-unit activities.
To ensure effective communication across the country, the PBC announced the recruitment of six dedicated call centre agents to be assigned to each geographical zone across the country, ensuring that every voter gets help during registration on the app and during the elections.
The initiative is designed to take electoral participation beyond political rallies and campaign activities by encouraging citizens to become actively involved in voter education, election preparedness and the protection of the integrity of the ballot.
The independent structure is expected to complement lawful electoral observation efforts by supporting citizens’ engagement, documenting polling-unit activities and promoting transparency throughout the electoral process. The council believes this invention will indeed overwhelm every rigging plan at polling units and collation centres across the country.
Four-Man Committee to Drive State-Level Coordination
The unveiling of the four-man State Directorate committee is expected to mark the beginning of a new phase of organisational development for the council.
The committee is expected to coordinate state-level activities, facilitate the establishment and expansion of grassroots structures, mobilise volunteers and support the implementation of the council’s election monitoring and voter education programmes.
It will also contribute to preparations for the training and coordination of community mobilisers, with the broader objective of ensuring that the council’s operational structures extend to communities and polling units across the country.
Global Participation Through Virtual Engagement
The choice of a virtual ceremony is expected to enable participation by advocates within Nigeria and members of the diaspora, reflecting the initiative’s commitment to broad-based citizen engagement.
Participants are expected to receive updates on the council’s organisational direction, the responsibilities of the State Directorate and the proposed nationwide mobilisation and training programme.
As preparations for the 2027 general elections gather momentum, the partnership between the Big Tent Coalition and COPDEM seeks to build an organised citizen-driven framework for promoting electoral awareness, transparency and accountability.
The DG of the Polling Booth Council Dan Elombah noted that the proposed recruitment of 9,500 community mobilisers represents a key component of that strategy, with training and effective coordination expected to determine how successfully the initiative translates its objectives into practical action.
