Several APC Supporters Injured as Two Buses Collide on Road to Lafia Mega Rally

Several supporters of the All Progressives Congress (APC) from Benue State have sustained injuries after two buses conveying them to a political rally collided in Lafia, the capital of Nasarawa State.

The accident occurred on Saturday, October 10, 2026, along the Government House route in Lafia, as the supporters travelled to attend the APC North-Central mega rally. The event was organised to mobilise support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s second-term ambition ahead of the 2027 general elections. (The Sun Nigeria)

The injured passengers were reportedly taken to hospitals in Lafia for medical attention. The exact number of people injured and the full extent of their injuries had not been confirmed at the time of reporting.

Dan-Morgan Ihomun, a spokesperson for an APC faction in Benue State associated with Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume, confirmed the incident.

He said the vehicles were transporting party supporters to the rally when the collision occurred. According to reports quoting Ihomun, no lives were lost in the accident.

The crash disrupted the journey of some delegates travelling from Benue to participate in the gathering, which drew APC members and supporters from across the North-Central region. Party supporters had reportedly started arriving in Lafia on Friday ahead of the event.

The incident has renewed concerns about road safety during large political gatherings, particularly when supporters travel long distances in organised groups. Safe transportation, proper vehicle maintenance and responsible driving remain important measures for reducing the risk of road crashes.

The Lafia accident also recalls a fatal incident on March 25, 2026, when three APC delegates from Ogbadibo Local Government Area of Benue State died and about 10 others were injured while travelling to an APC zonal congress in Lafia.

As of the latest reports, further details about the cause of the latest collision and the condition of those receiving treatment had not been released.
