The United States Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has released the names and photographs of 24 Nigerian nationals facing deportation as American authorities continue tightening immigration enforcement.
The list, published in October 2026, identifies individuals whom US immigration authorities say were arrested over a range of criminal offences, including fraud, money laundering, identity theft, drug-related offences, assault and child cruelty. The cases reportedly span several states across the country.
Among the Nigerians named are Emmanuel Omowaiye, Laurene Onwuka, Olusegun Shonekan, Peter Ude, Newton Jemide and Michael Orji. Other individuals on the list include Shedrack Umukoro, Joshua Ipoade, Teslim Kiriji and Bright Eigbedion.
In its statement, the DHS described the initiative as part of its effort to target non-citizens with criminal records. The department said it was highlighting what it called the “worst of worst criminal aliens” arrested by US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).
However, the publication of the names and photographs does not, by itself, establish when each individual will be removed from the United States. The available report did not specify a deportation schedule for the 24 Nigerians.
The development is significant for Nigerians living in the US, particularly immigrants whose legal status or criminal cases may affect their right to remain in the country. It also highlights the consequences of immigration enforcement and the importance of following US immigration laws.
The latest announcement follows earlier updates to the US deportation register involving Nigerian nationals. In September, reports said the DHS list included 112 Nigerians, following a previous publication featuring 124 names in July. These figures reflect different updates to the list and should not be treated as a single, cumulative total.
